I would love to say that I have always worked in the field of fashion, but that would be far from the truth. The truth is, since my childhood, in Trinidad & Tobago, I always had a passion for fashion and design. In addition, I struggled with low self-esteem, poor body image and lack of self-confidence - I did not think I was beautiful. In my teen years, my mother (seeing my talents) arranged for me to apprentice with a local fashion designer. This was a highlight in my life, from that moment on I knew exactly what I wanted to do with my life. When I moved to the USA in my late teens, the plan was to attend the Fashion Institute of Technology in NY, but it didn’t happen, Life Did.

What did happened was that my low confidence overwhelmed me and convinced me that I could not make a career out of my creativity and talent. So, I decided to go the traditional route – I chose a career in teaching. That didn’t pan out either. Over the years I bounced from one career to the next. I would dabble in some creative pursuits like cosmetology and interior design, but never following through because of fear.

 

Then it happened. My marriage, which was rocky from the beginning, ended and I had to fend for myself. During those years of a difficult marriage, I always maintained my sense of fashion. It was one of the few things that kept me sane and boosted my confidence. It was noticed by others and I would frequently get complimented for my sense of style. Back then, I did not realize the power of clothing. When the marriage ended, I said to myself, “This time, I will follow my dream and become an Image Consultant”. But I chickened out. Low self-confidence had the final say and I became a nurse.

 

As a nurse, I excelled in my field and within a few years of I became a Director of Nursing. I was very proud of my accomplishments but dissatisfied because I was not doing the thing I loved. After much soul searching, I decided to get some help to address the issues that plagued me since childhood and prevented me from pursuing my passion. Once that was done, I was free to be me. Free to live the life I desired; and so I did. I got my certification as an Image Consultant and launched my business. Shortly after starting the business, I was able to leave my nursing career.

 

Today, I have come full-circle. I am living my dream and pursuing my passion by helping women with their image and confidence. I have worked with women from all walks of life: religious leaders, businesswomen, moms, and entrepreneurs. I believe a woman’s beauty flows from the inside-out, and her appearance is directly linked to her perception of herself, her confidence and how she presents herself to the world.

 

My goal is to empower women to love themselves, their bodies, boost their confidence and command attention with their image.
